Kidwatching, Chapters 1-3 in Morrison
What is the difference between portfolio and work sample?
not sure
I think a wrok sample is the specific piece of work and the portfolio is a collection of worksamples as well as other materials used to assess
Yes, according to the book work samples are samples of the students' work that can be used as a form of authentic assessment. Portfolios are a compiliation.
nice, thanks for looking that up
Has anyone worked in a public kindergarten yet? How realistic is the model of the ELC here? In a half day kindergarten class of twice as many students, with state standards to meet, how would one foster community and allow as much freedom among the students? How would a students like Evan be dealt with?
public school?
The class I see is my sons, they have 24 kids for a half day Evan would be stopped so that all the kids can focus and work on what needs to be done. There is a lot less self expression.
very similar in the community aspect and respecting others, but the pants thing would not be tolerated-probably.
Yeah, I can't image that it would be okay for a teacher to deal with the pants thing in such a manner. I bet that they would be questioned if their students went home and said something about a classmate haveing their pant fall down all day.
Sometimes I feel like the center here is an idealogical example, but not quite a I think class size plays a part
I've noticed the kids can be more themselves in these college early learning communities than public school, for instance PCC has a program that is similar to this program here
I think class size plays a part in the setting. It is much easier to manage a group of 12-14 expressing them selves than a group of 24-26.
I wonder what it takes to get your child into the ELC, like an application and how much it costs and stuff...
I think it is based on income Based on income to get it? Or the cost?
I don't know... It is a great opportunity for k
i've been wanting to find out myself
ids though
knowlege, understanding, application, analyze, evaluate, create
A public school wouldn't be able to do an activity like the sandwich making because it is not sealed, store-bought food.
Tuition is based on income, I don:t know if they are full
They wouldnt be able to bring a dog in either, but there could be ways arountd i
true
They can't bring a dog?
You can do food making activites in public schools as long as you follow food prep rules for the county the school is in.
What if it bit a child, they would get sued
What about class pets? Rats and hampsters and what not can bite too can't they?
I bet you have to sign a release or a form or something, theres so many rules
you also have to be aware of food allergies
my daughter can't bring anything with peanut butter to school for snack because there's a boy that is allergic
it kinda bugs me because she really likes peanut butter
and for people with hypoglycemia
, peanut butter is the best thing to sustain their blood sugar
stupid peanut butter allergies, i love peanut butter!
protein too
yay for cyber space!

authentic assessment
actually
teaching
learning
assessment
-all come together
and continue to work together
NOT STANDARDIZED TESTING
assessment is part of the process, not separate
valid not necessarily authentic
authentic is always valid
great authentic assessment is in the context
does the heisenberg uncertianty principle make testing in any form less authentic - good question, I don't know
lesson plan is science of teaching
teaching is authentic assessment
designing a bird is authentic assessment for birds
where is the teaching and learning in making a bird? Isn't that a project which would separate the assessment process?
Universal Design for learning
Assess what they know, not what they do not know
I guess you would have to do research first but that would seperate learning and assessment
-children would learn that their design for a bird would work or wouldn't for the certain environment
Authentic: what I do know vs what I don't know
