Introduction
Who was the painter that cut off his ear? Who was it that
created the Eiffel Tower? Who painted the world famous "Water-lilies?"
Through this project, we shall find the answers to these questions and find
out a lot more information on other famous French people that you never
knew existed.

Task
You are currently in your second year of French, so you should know
a thing or two about the famous people that are from France. Several
of the world's most famous painters are from France, as well as writers,
and designers.
You will be choosing a Famous French Person to research. You
will be writing a biography on that person and presenting itto the class
including the famous works done by that person. The type-written
biography should include:
- date of birth;
- place of birth;
- family (spouse, children and
names if possible);
- all famous works (books,
paintings, designs, songs, or movies);
- interesting life details;
- schooling (if possible);
- date of death (if applicable);
- place of death (if applicable)
The presentation can be done
as a Power Point Slideshow or with a poster for added creativity.
The presentation should include:
- the most important facts
from the biography
- the most interesting facts
from the biography
- a picture or portrait of
your person
- copies of the works for
which your person in remembered

Process
We will be spending two days in the library and computer lab
to get all the needed information and to organizeyour presentation.
To research your famous French person,you will be using this Web Quest to
find all the biographical information through links and through the resources
in the library. Follow these steps to begin your project:
1. First, you need to pick a person. You can pick someone
you already know something about, or you can pick an area below that
interests you. No one can do the same person and remember that you
need to show the person's works during your presentation (make sure you
can do that!) When you have decided on a person, tell me immediately
so I can assign him/her to you and no one else can have him/her!
2. Second, use the links under these different areas to go
to sites that have some biographical information about your person. If
the sites do not have enough information, or if you need pictures ofworks
or of your person, you will need to go into the library and look for specialized
books on your person.
3. Third, write your paper. Remember that it needs
to be typed and to include the information listed
under the task. If you leave out any parts, you will lose points.
See the task and the scoring
guide. Also, don't forget about plagiarism!
This is your paper, not just information from a web site.
4. Fourth, organize your presentation. You can use
your paper or flash cards, but do not read! The presentation is
supposed to relay important and interesting information about your person,
so that they are remembered. You don't want to be so boring that
the class falls asleep! Remember the presentation needs to include
all information listed under the task. Again, if any parts are
left out, points will bededucted. Again, see scoring guide.
Your paper and presentation are due on the date said in class.
This project is worth 60 points total (see scoring
guide.) 5points are taken off each day that you are not prepared
topresent. The paper can be turned in on time, but 5 points will
still be taken off without a presentation each day late.

Conclusion
You should now have knowledge of the background of
a famousFrench person, and after the class presentations, you should
have pieces of information about several other famous French people as
well. Keep in mind that you have only heard a little bit about around
30 people. There are hundreds more famous French people out there.
For example, did you know a French person invented the camera?
It's amazing all the things today that came around from a French-speaking
person. If you are curious about other people in the same category,
look them up! There are a lot of French people out there that deserve
some credit!
