What do you think it would be like? Helen Keller knew what it was like to be both blind and deaf. Helen Keller was a bright and lively infant, but at the age of 19 months she contracted a fever. The fever left her blind and deaf. During her life Helen Keller was one of the world's greatest heroes. Her remarkable story was well known throught the world. TaskYou are writing an article for your classroom newspaper. You will research the following questions and then post your findings in your newspaper article. Task 1: Who was Helen Keller? What made her so unique? Task 2: Who was Anne Sullivan? What connection was made between Anne and Helen on April 5, 1887? Task 3: How many gestures had Helen developed? What type of communication did Anne use with Helen? Task 4: Where did Anne take Helen when Helen's breakthrough occured? Task 5: List some important achievements that helen Keller achieved as an adult. Task 6: What event occured on June 1, 1968? Process1. Your teacher will divide the whole class into groups and assign each group a seperate question. 2. After you have been put into a group you will then research the following questions using the web addresses below: Task 1:Helen Falls Ill Who was Helen Keller? What made her so unique? Task 2: Anne Sullivan and Helen Meets Anne Who was Anne Sullivan? How did Anne treat Helen in the beggining? Task 3: Communication How many gestures had Helen developed? Task 5: Achievements List some important achievements that helen Keller achieved as an adult. Task 6:Helen Retires from public life/ Helen's Legacy What event occured on June 1, 1968? 3. Then write and article about what your group has discovered about Helen Keller and then share your findings with the class. EvaluationYou will be graded as a group on how well you researched by throughly answering the given questions and how well you write your article. ConclusionBy the end of this lesson students will have a better understanding of Helen Keller's life nad her accomplishments by reasearching questions and writing an article on what they have learned about her. Students will have a better understanding of how technology can be used in the classroom. They will also become knowledgeable in the area of how to use a webqust.
