Introduction

This web page was created to help middle school students understand the basic concepts of cellular life.  The goal is that the student will be able to understand what makes up eukaryotic cells.
The tasks below will help students build on their own basic understandings of cell structure and life.

Task

You will be working in a team that will be made up of three members.  Each member will be assigned a role.

1.    Investigator
2.    Artist
3.    Scientist

  •  Each team member will use the Internet to research the functions of eukaryotic cells.
  • Take notes on the cell  information you find.
  •  Each team member will share their notes with the other team members, in a discussion  group, so that each teammate has a complete set of notes, and understands the complete  information on the eukaryotic cell.
  • Using the role assigned to you, your group will work together to plan, design, and construct a poster of a eukaryotic cell, that is based on your research.
  • When the class teams have all completed their posters, then each team will present their poster and research information to the class.

Process

To accomplish the task, you need to:

  1. Be assigned to a team of 3 students.
  2. Picked a role to play.
  3. Use the internet to research the functions of the cell
  4. You will need to take notes from the web sites so that you can bring your resources to the team. You will turn in a summary copy of  your research. Be sure to correctly site your sources.
  5. Copy and paste web picture if you need them

Students will access the on-line resources that are located below. You may use these links to complete your research of eukaryotic cells.
Read though the information on the web pages provided below.  Create a  flowchart to organize the material on cell structure and function.  Write a  summary of the information you have gathered, then present it to your group.

Evaluation

Your performance will be evaluated using the guidelines table below Grade will be group based.  If their are performance problems, then grades will be assessed on a individual bases.

Scoring your work

Your Performance
is evaluated by demonstrating the following

Your performance will be based on your personal work contributions to your team.   Your evaluation is based on the delivery of information to your classmates, in the role you have been assigned.   Your research  evaluation will be based on the summary of your research that you hand in after you poster presentation. You must demonstrate content understanding of the information you are delivering in your poster presentation

Each of the 4 areas is worth 25% of your project grade.

Conclusion

You have learned the basic stucture and function of a eukaryotic cells componates.  This will help you develop a better understanding of how cell operate within your body.
