Digital Learning Stories:
Empowering Students' Representations and Reflections
Conceptual Foundations

The manner in which the brain constructs understanding should be the basis for curricular methodologies, especially with young children, and the use of digital learning stories is supported by current theories of cognition and pedagogy. Each of the following concepts or practices contributes to the conceptual foundation underlying the use of DLS.

Authentic learning and assessments
Reflection as a means of supporting learning and more deeply processing information
Constructivism and social constructivism
Brain-based Learning
Concrete representations as a starting point for exploring more abstract constructs.
Learning styles and the accommodation of different intellectual configurations
Student-centered learning activities such as project-based and problem-based learning.
